Editorial Reviews

Review

Blinding Mirror is splendid. A dark, page-turning gem, this rags-to-riches saga tosses happily-ever-after to the wind. Vivid characters propel an authentic saga, illustrating such ugly behavior as it fuels a desperate hunger for the beautiful life at a tragic, human cost. The climax stays with you long after you put Blinding Mirror down. It's a novel you can't wait to tell your friends they just have to read. --Dwight Hobbes, Mpls/St. Paul Magazine

In her third novel, Blinding Mirror, author Shelley Halima continues writing about race and class struggles. This time the beautiful Olivia Valente tosses aside family and racial identity to strike out on her own to find wealth, and happiness. Halima's novels are reminiscent of those crafted by Harold Robbins, Jacqueline Susann and even Jackie Collins. We love Halima's hot mestiza characters in this page turner with a twist. Where is the mini-series? --Charlotte Morgan, author of upcoming book Judgment in Goshen: Taxonomy of Ordinary Murder & Editor/Creator of Intangible Magazine

What a wonderful and great experience I have had reading Blinding Mirror, a novel by a soon to be literary star Shelley Halima. It was like watching a soap on television, I couldn't wait to get to the next page! Continued success as you are truly a gifted and talented individual, I look forward to your future works. --E'lyse Murray, Elyse Group 7, Agent to the Stars

The Other Side of the Pain,  by Etterlene "Mama" DeBarge

"Mama" Debarge's memoir promises to be an inspirational story of unconditional faith and love.  It's a harrowing story of a woman's personal battle when forced to survive a life riddled with abuse, drugs, violence and great despair.

Her story intricately weaves her own life with that of her children's (the celebrated, Motown singing group from the 1980's), their story, told through her eyes.  From her agonizing depiction of her tumultuous and violent marriage to her first husband, to the rise, fall and rise again of her famous children and their celebrity, including untold accounts of her son James' marriage to Janet Jackson, and the loss of her daughter-in-law at the hands of a serial killer.

It is fascinating account of a family and their roller-coaster like highs and way to low, lows.  It's about an extraordinary woman, wife and a mother who through it all manages to keep hold of the reins, a smile on her face and a song in her heart and a supernatural strength that only God could have given her.

(Author of God Don't Like Ugly)

A beautiful, resourceful woman is caught in a high-stakes game of money, sex and betrayal—all in the name of a better future… Christine Thurman had the perfect marriage. A girl from the wrong side of the tracks, she made good by marrying Jesse Ray Thurman and helping him build a business worth millions. Together, they were the perfect couple—attractive, successful, and deeply in love. Christine was convinced she’d spend the rest of her life by her handsome husband’s side.

But twelve years later, J.R. has become obsessed with building his video store empire and is taking his wife for granted. Feeling trapped and alone in a dead-end marriage, Christine finds herself tempted by her old haunts and the people she thought she left behind long ago. Suddenly, without J.R. even realizing it, their seemingly unshakeable bond has started fraying at the seams—and Christine will do anything to break free.

Enter Wade Eddie Fisher, a bad boy with good looks from Christine’s past. Wade left their hometown long ago to follow his Hollywood dreams, but now he’s back, penniless, and as tempting as ever. Even though Wade is far from dependable, he offers Christine something she can’t seem to resist. Soon she’s immersed in a sultry affair, and before she knows it, she’s concocted a scheme so risky that it promises to deliver everything she could possibly want—or shatter the lives of everyone close to her…
